Get Out the Vote!

The current county election turnout has been very low. It is imperative for you and your networks to get out the vote! Early Voting runs through July 27! Election day is August 1. Through Saturday, of more than 191,000 eligible registered voters, only 8,700 votes have been cast, or just 4.5%. An article from the Williamson Herald last week highlighted the light turnout so far. See the article here.

With that in mind, the Coalition is asking you to spread the word and get your networks to vote. Below are the details worth repeating as the future of our county depends on it. Please do your part.

Williamson County School Board of Education, General Election, August 1, 2024

The county is segmented into twelve voting districts as you can see by clicking on the link: Williamson County Voting District Map. In 2024, only the odd numbered county districts are up for election (Six slots), as well as the Franklin Special School District (Three slots). Even numbered districts were elected in 2022. More than ever, the county needs good people in these important positions. Wondering what the ballot will look like in Williamson County when voting? Check out sample ballots here.

The Coalition for Common Sense TN wants to continue the great success of Williamson County with elected officials who have the community’s best interest in mind, using civil discourse, finding common ground, and practicing common sense, to get things done. Finding good candidates willing to serve is always a challenge and the Coalition admires and appreciates anyone willing to give their time and talents to continuously improve the community.

While the Coalition believes every voter should conduct their own research and make an informed selection in voting based on broad, available public information, our efforts are designed to provide one more data point. The primaries are the most likely races to decide who best to represent each party, so the Coalition is focused on these important, but often overlooked elections and as a non-partisan group, may not make any endorsements in the general election. With this approach, it is important to note that the below endorsements are only for the respective party primary.

Using these tenets, the Coalition endorses the following highly qualified and capable candidates for their respective positions in the contested primaries:

District 61 Democratic Primary: The Coalition endorses Kurt Kosack. In short, Kosack comes at the legislative process with maturity and a collaborative approach. His repeated references to what our people have in common and finding common ground, resonate with voters and the Coalition. Neither candidate has held public office before, although Jones’ experience as a mother and in healthcare and Kosack’s time as a school teacher, businessman, lawyer, and U.S. Navy veteran, give them unique perspectives in their chosen life’s paths. While both candidates describe positions very common among Democrats, Kosack appears very willing to work across the aisle and collaborate with the Republican leadership to enact legislation across the state for the benefit of the masses. In these challenging times, more collaboration is needed, not less.

District 65 Republican Primary: The Coalition Endorses Brian Beathard. No candidate can agree or align on all issues with the constituents, but in this race, experience makes the difference. Beathard has been a county commissioner for fourteen years and is currently the chair of a commission in a county that has continued to improve among the best places to live, work, and raise a family. Beathard’s knowledge, engagement, and track record of helping the county successfully navigate the challenges all communities face places him in a unique position to better know and represent the interests of the people of District 65. While not agreeing with Beathard on every issue, the Coalition believes his willingness to listen and be open-minded to different points of view, along with the local relationships he has built over the years, will further enable his effectiveness to represent the interests of the district as a legislator at the state level.
