We wanted to provide an update on the Coalition for Common Sense TN. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been working behind the scenes to formalize our organization to ensure that we proceed in an appropriate manner.

As of last week, the Coalition for Common Sense TN is officially recognized as a Political Action Committee (PAC). This means that we can legally raise funds and endorse candidates. Community leaders Bob Ravener and Lynne McAlister are serving as PAC Chairman and Treasurer respectively. Please note that your inclusion in our database does NOT mean you are a member of the PAC. You can also donate to the PAC and still support specific candidates.

Speaking of our database, we have over 500 (and growing daily) engaged Williamson County citizens signed up. To date, this has all been due to word of mouth. Now that we are officially sanctioned as an organization, we plan to go public in the next week. Based on feedback, we have definitely tapped into a desire of many in our community to activate and engage.

With the Franklin elections coming up in October with several contested elections, our mission has never been more clear and more important. We have to make sure voters in Franklin – and in Williamson County as a whole – are educated on the candidates and that they get out and vote. We have to protect the values and ideals that have made our community great.

We have sent a survey to all candidates for Mayor and Alderman asking for their stances on issues facing our community. From this, the Coalition will endorse those we believe truly have the greater good of Franklin in mind. We will publicly announce those endorsements and we will work to get them elected.

That’s where the donations come in. To do mailers, social media, ads and other things to support candidates and educate the general public, we need funds.
